Well there was the game Karpov-Kortchnoi in London 1984, when I clearly remember applause at the end from the spectators in County Hall, and possibly when they shook hands for the first time in several years at the start.
According to CHESS magazine at least, there was prolonged and spontaneous applause after they shook hands at the start.

True - and Korchnoi apparently apologised for being late as he had been stuck in a lift. He certainly said more than "hello", and it looked polite!

In Yugoslavia they oft applaud, as Miles reported.
They did so after I myself did so Vs Short in the game I gave earlier at this thread.
Applause also came in Hastings after I defeated Shipov.

Regarding animosity between Karpov and Korchnoi, two years after their handshake I saw them partnering each other at contract Bridge Vs Miles and Lyuboyevic one evening at Tilburg...

And, Señor Hickman; I stand obdurate in my opinion that, fabulous as Belyavsky Vs Nunn, Wijk aan Zee 1985 is - and it is simply astonishing that in a pre-computer era he hit upon such a concept as 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 g6 3 Nc3 Bg7 4 e4 d6 5 f3 0-0 6 Be3 Nbd7 7 Qd2 c5 8 d5 Ne5 9 h3 Nh5! 10 Bf2 f5!! 11 exf5 Rxf5 12 g4 Rxf3 13 gxh5 Qf8 and that was quite deservedly judged the Novelty of the Year - the game is nevertheless still inferior in quality to Plaskett Vs Miles, Lugano 1986.

For, I repeat; Nunn´s blunder at move fifteen relegated a won game into one where he was markedly worse. Whereas my blunder at move twenty-seven turned a winning position into one where only a draw ought to have resulted.
And Stockfish16 can detect no point after I sacced my queen for a bishop and three pawns where I am clearly worse.
