On Channel 4 show Countdown, the young new champion said he is very keen on chess and that he is the current under 18 county champion. He looks to be very impressive at Countdown, so I suspect he may be around for a few days more if anyone wanted to try to see him. His name is Arthur Page.

THE INSEPARABLES 2023 Sky Premier movies this week.
It attracted my attention because, in my TV Choice this week, the description of this new cartoon showed a chess board, a stuffed toy, a big pawn and another piece. I didn't see this image in the actual film. but there was a very brief chess image of a car running into a chessboard and set about 1 hour 15 minutes in.
i am not a cartoon enthusiast.

Unfortunately the "first square" (a1) is white.

Without wishing to dampen others' enthusiasm, and while acknowledging that there are some interesting posts on this thread which it's worth taking on board, I wonder whether it's absolutely necessary to report here every time a football manager or similar says "It was like a game of chess out there" or something equally mundane?

That's how desperate we are to put chess in the media

I didn't bother when it happened a few days ago!

I remember noticing this strip; it took me a little while to realize they missed Anand.

St Louis Cardinals' report on last night's Major League Baseball win over the Chicago Cubs: "[Matt] Carpenter helped provide a checkmate for Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol as the game evolved into a chess match in the late innings."

BLETCHLEY PARK CODE-BREAKING'S FORGOTTEN GENIUS

I just saw this one-hour programme on BBC 4. It is being repeated 1.55-2.55 this evening.
It concerns mathematician Gordon Welchman of whom I hadn't previously heard. It weaves in the story of code breaking in Blatchley Park and its effect on World War II.

It mentions chess players, crossword puzzle-solvers, bridge players in passing. It also mentions Stuart Milner-Barry and the famous contact with Winston Churchill to which he responded so positively.

We have good reason to be proud of this story.
