Anyone have any news beyond move 38 on board 2 or move 32 on board 4?

I'm awaiting these two results for tomorrow's Guardian, and have missed the first edition deadline because of the silence. I guess other journalists might be similarly placed. These are games affecting the top prizes.

Rapid information would be really appreciated.

Both games still in progress.Ivanka is losing and Nick is trying to win with B,N+ 3 v R+3 all on the k-side.Black has some problems but probably it should be a draw.

Its quite a tight positional struggle on board 2 - for outright second place and around £2000 though - if I was nick pert I would be pushing that one for the rest of the night.

If White wins, Adams won't equal the record for largest-ever winning margin, a point which may not be uppermost in Nick Pert's mind.

I note that according to Nalimov, Black's 65th was the best move but nevertheless loses in 51. I trust those 51 include a capture or a pawn move...

There might have been a moment when Nick was near to winning,but Black should hold now.
Talking of random records,is it possible that I have broke the record for the most moves played over the 11 rounds? There was talk that the previos best was Tony Miles averaging 58. Mine was well into the 60s. Hardly compensation for having a **** tournament,but a curiosity nonetheless.

(Thinking about it, that's presumably got to involve pawn promotes and rook takes queen fairly early on, followed by a bishop and knight mate.)

This is exactly the sort of statistic that would impress me.

I also recall speculating a couple of years ago as to who had the smallest "average moves played" figure among winners. (I believe Lalic, B was leading at the time.)

Oops the position seems to have moved on quite a bit since I last looked.Surely it was holdable before,but now White is obviously winning.I wonder if Stevo will make Nick demonstrate the N+B mate?

Oh,. that's cunning. If White had played 78.Ke3, Black has a draw...

Its worth making him play out - probably one of the most expensive N+B mates for anybody to have ever got wrong, so that should add a bit of tension to it. Although, having said that, the king is rather close to already being in the right corner for the mate, so it shouldnt take long.
