Simon, I urge you to reconsider Richard Bates advice.

You have joined a well established community that to some extent self regulates. I can understand why you would not want to follow the advice of people you have disagreed with like Justin or me, but Richard a bit different. He is one of the regulars who tends not to post on controversial topics or give controversial opinions and focuses on the chess content. If that is the sort of forumite you want to be, his advice is valuable and I think kindly intended.

I wasn't criticising Richard or you Paul.
Justin or his friend Alan Walton have not apologised to me.
People have quit the forum because of the political views from the two extremes and personal attacks. I have tried and failed to appease both sides.
I have read the posts on the Worrying Times thread and found it disturbing.
Children are guests on this forum and have found the gutter politics and personal attacks on each other very upsetting.

If you post stuff that isn't true, or seems dodgy but you can't substantiate it, you expect someone to point this out; that's the nature of the Forum; some people are more sensitive than others, and then intrepret this as a personal attack

Carl & Jack do their best to moderate the Forum, and I appreciate their hard work, but when it goes too far, it does get reported

It's plausible that the one you might be thinking of was a fake. In other words someone who pretended to be a strong player by use of a chess engine. As it was over the board chess. no-one had been able to prove or demonstrate how.
