A New League Website

Post by Joey Stewart » Mon Nov 15, 2010 4:36 pm

Hello everybody, I thought it seems about ready to reveal to the world so I would like to direct your attention to my latest creation : the gloucestershire chess league website www.gloucesterchess.co.uk

If anyone thinks of something that might be worth adding (or taking away from) then can you mention it to me, but hopefully I feel like it gives most of the necessary information.

Yeah, lots of people spot that one - I wonder what it is that draws people to see who is running the league?
I keep meaning to update it, but it should really be the sort of section that is never looked at like the constitution and rules.

Nice uncluttered screens. Might be an idea to add a page on local congresses?

A few typos on the homepage (lighting, tabels etc) but otherwise nice job!

There are no local congresses, to the best of my knowledge, but if any come to my attention I will probably put them on the 'tournaments' page.
Good spot on those mis spellings too - they have gone un noticed for a while, I can fix them streight up.

What I did was click all the tabs at the top. I have no particular wish to see who is running that league, but I presume those taking part in the league might want to know this information. And anyone clicking something and getting an empty page will presume that something is missing. Maybe put a "under construction" or "to be added" note?

I am sure I could knock a few names up to keep the fans happy - I have agreed with the secretary to take any external questions about the league in my webmaster capacity and pass them on where needed.

There's the Cotswold congress in Cheltenham (Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend). Also, Gloucestershire players might be interested in the congresses in Bristol (August and December), Kidlington (February), Warwickshire (February), Hereford (April and August) and Worcester (July). They're all within drivable distance from mid-Gloucestershire without having to stay overnight.

There are also congresses just across the Welsh border (venues vary, but they've been at Chepstow, Monmouth, Newport and Caerleon in recent years).

I have never heard of kidlington - where is that then?
I suppose I could be persuaded to put a small advertisement about such congresses if the organisers wrote to me with a bit of information to give, but it seems that the sort of players who like tournaments tend to find out all the details off the ECf page (its certainly where I first look when I fancy a bit of chess on a saturday)

Kidlington is about a 10 minute drive North of Oxford. It's an excellent Congress (so everyone says - I've never actually got around to playing in it myself). See http://home.btconnect.com/OCA/

It looks like they attract some good players to it. Too far for me to travel I expect, but I did recognise some gloucester players in this years tournament so it must be within the boundaries.
