The answer to my Quiz Question is unsurprisingly, Dominic Lawson.

You can read the whole thing here https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/co ... 31394.html but you'll need a strong stomach.

Dominic Lawson: This poverty debate is fuelled by anger at the rich, not sympathy for the poor
If a company makes its money honestly, it is entirely its own business how much it pays staff

The article defends an unpopular and oppressed minority - the super rich - against demands that they hand over some of their money to help the poor. There is a grim irony that the article was written just before the crash and the bankers were bailed out by the rest of us.

It's a minor point, but Nigel Lawson wasn't actually a member of Major's Cabinet
Sorry, my sloppy shorthand for "senior Cabinet Minister during Thatcher's Prime Ministership, including Financial Secretary to the Treasurer and then Chancellor of the Exchequer for six years, personally responsible for the all the madness carried out under the false premises of 'monetarism', then an MP loyal without fail to the Conservative Whip under John Major, including passing through the government lobby for every budget implementing the lunatic choice to impale the British economy on a 3 DM peg, until his elevation to the House of Lords"
