I bought CB14 about a year ago... a few months ago it started asking for the activation key when opening. I ignored this request and it continued to operate normally. Now it has started repeatedly closing, when I don't enter the activation key.
I have now entered the activation key, which the software accepted... but CB wants to make changes to my hard disk. I was a bit nervous about this, as I was worried that this might be a re-install and would wipe my data ... or maybe it is a software upgrade (?).
If File, Activation, Update Program then it says I haven't activated the program ?
Very unclear what to do, as the term activation key I associate with an install rather than upgrade... possibly incorrectly ?

Re: ChessBase 14 Question
Use of the activation key follows a successful installation.
It might also follow a successful update.
As a matter of good policy a hard disk should be backed up in any case.
Under Windows (unless prehistoric) you may create a restore point whenever you wish which only relates to system software plus the registry.
I suggest you create a restore point as a general housekeeping measure.
My laptop(s) hardisks only contain OS software plus Outlook data files which I backup regularly to a separate USB device.
Hope that helps !
