I think it's a good ice breaker/conversation piece.

And, it has already served as a timely reminder that high-grade chess has reached Greenland at least twice.
Indeed. Though maybe Francis should have waited till tomorrow before posting!

Or until the Day of the Greek Kalends
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I've actually seen a report on the Greenland Chess Championship where the victor said he was Inuit to win it. After a titanic struggle his opponent sunk without trace - so it certainly was a Knight to remember. As regards the original post let's hope it's not the tip of the iceberg.

On an almost more serious note we've played a couple of county matches at this venue https://greenlandschessclub.com/ - I guess there are more players there than in Greenland.

Finally turning to John's quote the men and women of the Northlands while away the long winter nights in front of their great log fires. surely this is from the excellent tv series "Noggin the Nog". The appearance of the characters is based on the Lewis chessmen which co-author Peter Firmin, who died last year, had seen at the British Museum.

That comes over as a little bit po-faced. More fool any forum poster for taking such nonsense seriously. It’s hardly on the Trump or Putin fake news scale.
When the ECF Board made the ill-fated attempt to introduce an ECF Forum, the Board was always tolerant and forgiving of those who took the ----, wasn't it?

Edit: Mike has reminded me that he was not a member of the Board at the time that the ECF Forum was established. My apologies to him.

Let's hope it's not Theresa May.

Thanks for the hon. mention, Neil.

Oliver Postgate did the narration of Noggin's sagas.

My favourite character?
Nogbad the Bad

Favourite line?
"Dragons come!!"

PS I see that David S received the PM with his customary good grace.

Thanks for the mention of Oliver Postgate.

Is there something about this that mirrors the current political situation? Ah - thought so! :D

Yet more clangers to come from the House of Fun before Brexit's done.

They're skating on thin ice.
