what's a good alternative to the DRUEKE 8" travel magnetic chess set ?

Post by Catherine Glynn » Tue Apr 02, 2019 3:00 pm

I'm trying to replace my husband's Drueke 8"/20cm travel magnetic set but it's no longer in production. Amongst its attractions:

1) Easy to hold at an angle/vertically when studying, due to size and the raised sides ( it's a boxed set)

2) Discarded pieces fit around the edge of the board

Does anyone recommend a set which is almost identical to this one? It's beyond my capabilities to figure out how to insert a picture of said set into this post so I am relying on those of you already familiar with it.

I should add that we have around 20 other smaller/larger/travel chess sets at home but he only ever uses this one even though the black squares have long since faded.

Thanks for any (helpful) suggestions.

Is your husband's the cardboard or plastic boxed one?

That site recommends this one:

Thanks.

Yes, I did look at that one already but it doesn't have the raised edges.

My husband has the plastic set where the board is built into the base of the box and thus has a 2cm raised edge which makes it easy to hold vertically.
