Exclusion from FIDE rating list

Post by Roger de Coverly » Tue May 28, 2019 12:12 am

On the FIDE site there is now
https://www.fide.com/component/content/ ... ayers.html
Nearly a decade ago, FIDE, at the behest of the All India Chess Federation, removed the Elo ratings of dozens of players and expunged their names from the records. Today we are delighted to welcome back all those players with immediate effect.

I think the Indian players were "guilty" of playing in events not approved of by the AICF.

The ECF too removed players from the FIDE list. This was for the offence of playing in a FIDE rated competition whilst not an ECF Gold member. The two English names I am aware of as being excluded are now reinstated and probably have been for some years.

People with long memories will recall Short and Kasparov being expunged from the FIDE ratings after their 1993 breakaway match.

IIRC this only lasted a year or so.
