I was in Chess & Bridge in Baker Street over the weekend. It was immediately noticeable that the shop's large table-display of new books and magazines has been replaced by more space given to chess sets. The secondhand-books section has disappeared, or at least been much reduced and incorporated into the remaindered shelves.
Similarly, anyone who has been to Foyles in Charing Cross Road recently will know how the chess section is obscurely located and much depleted since its glory days

I have a massive collection of 2000 chess books which I am gradually trying to sell. Part of the problem is that the market for second hand chess books is on eBay where collectors hang out - not necessarily amongst dedicated chess tournament players. Even finding space at my tournaments for a bookstall is a problem, though!

I may not have quite that many, but I have literally hundreds that I still have to read/study - and I still keep buying them. I think my last two were secondhand ones from the Constables' stall at the Cotswold Congress in Gloucester

Don't know if I have that many in that position, but its still a fair few.
Keep telling myself that I will "get round to it" some day......

Chess Essentials are running a well stocked book stall this weekend at The Scottish Championship in Edinburgh.

Just came back with a few books I have to smuggle past Mrs. C.
How do women do it? I have 100's of chess books scattered all
over the house yet she can spot new additions within seconds.
It's got to the stage when I'm hunting for a book I just ask her where it is.

Perhaps spotting first editions would be the more valuable talent.
