Yes, that was the only example I could think of. It's not exactly Rochester Royals -> Cincinnati Royals -> Kansas City-Omaha Kings -> Kansas City Kings -> Sacramento Kings.

True - at one point, owners of Leeds United were thinking of relocating to Kent on the basis that they would get bigger crowds, especially as there weren't any proper teams in Kent. Fans and enemies were united in their fury!

Bury are the first league club to be expunged since Aldershot and Maidstone went in fairly quick succession back in 1992.

Re the above posts, there was a bizarre last minute attempt to save the latter by relocating to Tyneside.

As a real live 'old' Wimbledon FC fan I can second what Nick says. The franchise model will never be acceptable to football fans in England, although it might make commercial sense for some club owners. The irony is that MK Dons are in the same place in the League as the old Wimbledon in their last year. But at least the town of Milton Keynes got a shiny new ASDA store, and the people of Merton are about to get a shiny new football ground.

LOL, presumably they had heard that Leeds Castle was in Kent. [There's a nearby village, also named Leeds].

Presumably so. I think the only other relevant disqualification would have barred them from acting as pension fund trustees.

While the three directors profited considerably from the scheme, they seem to have gained far less than the investors lost. The tax authorities presumably ended up with the difference.
