You've just made me grovel into my recycling bin with a torch to check on the 'Times 2' games which have replaced the Monday through Friday chess column. Slight correction: just one 'weirdly named game', Tetonor, which appeared on Tuesday and again on Thursday. Too much to explain, but there are 16 numbers of 2 or 3 digits in a 4x4 grid. Below is a 16-cell strip with a number in just six of the cells. The instructions begin: When complete, the strip below the grid can be split into eight pairs of numbers. Adding the numbers in a pair gives one of the 16 numbers in the grid...etc You get the flavour?Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:11 pm"couple of weirdly named new puzzle games"

You can play this on your phone or tablet as well, which much be pretty frustrating if you get puzzles like this one, where there's no solution.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:20 amjust one 'weirdly named game', Tetonor, which appeared on Tuesday and again on Thursday. To be honest, having laboured through that one ( and confirmed your conclusion, not that I doubted it ) I feel that I never need to do another.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 11:27 amwhich much be pretty frustrating if you get puzzles like this one, where there's no solution.

You can get something like 10 free articles a month and all the columns are on line.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 4:41 pmPaying for The Spectator is against my religion.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 8:34 pmLuke's excellent column is in the Spectator and the contents page has at last correctly attributed it to him rather than to Raymond Keene. ...
I honestly don't think that that was the motivation of any contributor to this Forum.Daniel Gormally wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 1:12 pmNevertheless I wonder if the obsession with him from some quarters is or was partly motivated by the cushy job he had at the times- that perhaps others coveted?
