Submitting events to the FIDE calendar

Post by Paul McKeown » Fri Jan 10, 2020 6:53 am

I'm sure that someone here can help.

This new FIDE calendar, that shouts all over the place that its status is "beta", how does one go about adding new events to it?

The link given on the ECF website (https://www.fide.com/calendar/tournamen ... =uregister) doesn't seem to work, it just pretends to do something and hangs.

Logging in to my account (using the email that the account was registered with rather than the user name, why the change, don't know, don't care).

Click on the link "Add new".

Type in all the stuff (dreadful calendar controls, watch that you're not actually adding an event in 2021, not 2010).

Most of it evident enough, but not sure why it asks in three different fields for the time control.

When it asks for "Coordinates" is it really looking for "51.4495°N 0.32027°W" for Orleans Park School? Some guidance here welcome.

Then after typing in all the gumf, there is a choice of two buttons:
  • SAVE
  • SEND TO FIDE
Alas, neither seem to do anything, except send one back to the form, with all the data gone. Or if something happened on a server somewhere, there is certainly no feedback to the user.

Can anyone, please HELP!

I need to get this sorted, please, please, please.

Not me. I try to avoid contact with the new website, much of which is still a disaster area.

However, Gibraltar do seem to have got their event up somehow. Perhaps they can provide some tips.

Do you think you need to get it sorted because the regulations require you to do so, or because you think it would be desirable to help your event attract entries? I've not bothered putting my events there for several years. It's not a requirement of it being FIDE-rated.

If you're trying to register it for FIDE-rating, which is a requirement of the regulations, then you do it by going via Dave Clayton; it's not the same thing at all as getting it on that calendar.

It used to be a requirement for Title tournaments. That is no longer the case.

I had an account on the old FIDE website. I don't even know how to find it on the new one.

However, like Alex, I don't care.

The Fide calendar is the first place I look for tournaments to play in. It is not as user-friendly as it was before the revamp, but is still the most useful calendar I know of.

The latter - for the advertising. See Tim Spanton's response...

Never mind, I'll try again in a few week's time to see if it works then.

That's alright. I sometimes get people email me who are desperate to put it there because they know they need to "register the tournament" with FIDE, and don't appreciate that the calendar isn't the same thing.
