Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
Thanks. I'll keep on checking various websites. I've started a new topic for the Northumberland Chess Congress in the Congress Diary section and Roger De Coverly has kindly found the link to the Congress website. Thank you Roger.

"Think this is in France somewhere."
The bin seems to be labelled "Litter", and next to the railway shop, it seems to say "To Let". Nevertheless, wherever it is, that is a solid screen.

It could well be an English speaking country, Kevin. It was posted on a French chess website so I just guessed and still haven't been able to track it down despite my less than best efforts. Perhaps its Montreal where they speak both languages. What I am surprised about is nobody picking up the placement of the White pieces which is normally de riguer for your regular ECForumite's level of detail.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:21 pm"Think this is in France somewhere."

It does look like it's in England in which case perhaps someone can identify where it is.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:21 pm"Think this is in France somewhere."

Good point - I'm trying to find the trace evidence and calmly stepping over the body without noticing it...
I recall that somebody told me that East Grinstead has outdoor chess outside a bookshop (although I never visited it.) And the background does look a bit like East Grinstead (and thousands of other places).

Have to say despite my reservations about the covid restrictions in the Polish Women's Championships that IM Karina Cyfka winning it while being 8 months pregnant is a pretty magnificent effort.

My local club (Barrow) is about to start meeting again, though the AGM (normally at the end of August) has been postponed.

An interesting article in the Independent on the further research being carried out in relation to COVID-19 being airborne. In countries with a high incidence of the virus it would seem there’s no getting away from having to wear a mask indoors at chess events. I’d guess the ‘business as usual’ no masks, handshake Czech Republic approach to mass participation chess events wouldn’t be very wise in America, Italy, Spain, England and other hot spot areas. You’d really just be rolling the dice that nobody in the room was infected.

I've long assumed that to be the case. Objectively which measures prevent transmission if you run into someone infected? Five months of supermarket interaction suggests a relatively extended period of exposure is necessary. That would however apply to a chess opponent you might be facing for several hours.Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 12:00 amYou’d really just be rolling the dice that nobody in the room was infected.

Spilimbergo, Italy doubling down on the PPE. Foldaway tables turned around as well to create more social distancing.
