If it does, it would be equally tempting not to come back.

That's a thought - a sort of prolonged European chess tour covering most of August and September

Not just the UK rules as a worry. Unless things go very surprisingly well here, you’ll probably face a strict two week quarantine on arrival in Europe. See Greece recently.

I read that the Greeks had said we were welcome. Has that changed?

Greece is to open up to tourists from 29 countries in two weeks - but not those travelling from the UK

It had previously been reported that Greece was open to a reciprocal arrangement with the UK under which each country would admit residents of the other without quarantine restrictions.

They'll be open to it in principle, just not while the rate of the virus in our population is anything like as high as it is now.

We've basically given up on really squashing it, so at this point I doubt if we'll be freely travelling anywhere this side of a vaccine. See also Sweden, USA etc.

All very annoying for those of us in London, where the virus is now harder to find than baking powder.

London's not really at normal daytime population levels though is it? It would likely return once the tourists and commuters return. Its not just about you, you know.

The Biel GM tournament is planned to go ahead this year, but most of the rest of the usual tournaments are cancelled. Michael Adams is one of GM tournament players.

The organisers do, though, plan a "Corona Amateur Tournament" where "each player has a chessboard with his own pieces in front of him and sits offset at the same table with his opponent". The details of how this will work are not yet published. It has 19 entries at the time of writing.

That should be completely chaotic! When do you press the clock? The arbiters will doubtless have several opportunities to reconstruct the real position from the varied ones they will get, assuming the players have coherent score-sheets, which is not usually the case... It's almost worth going just as a spectator.

I don't see why pressing it would be a problem if it's between the two players. Both players being able to see it at the same time would be impossible with a normal digital clock though.

Why would it be any worse than what might happen when playing a blind player?
