Although this was only the first time I was tested this was 100% my third time having corona virus....my first two times were well documented on this forum back in March....I have deleted many of those posts as a chess colleague has since died a few weeks after those posts.
I can assure anyone reading here that if you get coronavirus once you will certainly get it a second , third and forth time etc and in my cases the 3rd time was the worst...I managed to fight it unaided the first two times back in early March and late April.

Only now are the media beginning to confirm that people will be getting reinfected time after time...the only thing they are getting wrong is their theory that the second and third reinfections will be less severe
Wrong again.....the later reinfections will be more severe! my personal experiences

Did you require hospital treatment the third time?
Have you participated GP or hospital based research?

There is some evidence that a vaccine will be more effective in older individuals.

We've all been thinking of you.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend Martin.
Sorry to hear about your Chess colleague.
Have you reported it in the Deaths and Obituaries Category?

I saw the report on the BBC Breakfast News this morning about antibodies only lasting a few months.
I am hoping that the idea of Herd Immunity will now come to an end.
I remember as a kid, I had mumps twice.
On a different note, I mentioned in a different thread, that I have another Death and Obituary to report.
I will report it today. There is a lengthy tribute on another website and if someone can add the link after I posted it, it will be much appreciated.

I am sorry so say that, but it is very dangerous to make such claims with only 1 test? How can a non specialist, without test, determine that it was covid and not flu, pneumonia, a bad cold, another coronavirus or any other respiratory disease? And 100 %? Not a shred of doubt? Even tests are not accurate at 100% !!

Reinfections exist, but documented numbers are very small worldwide even with millions contaminated.

A double reinfection would mean that either you have a depressed immune system, or that you need to make yourself know to researchers as you may be one of a handful in the world.

But to the initial point, making unproven claims on such a serious matter is very dangerous. And the only proof is a test. Without that, anyone could claim anything. Including dodgy remedies and placebos. Science has to follow an evidence based approach, not a gut feel.

On a more personal note, hope you recover quickly and without side effects.

Yes, I'd seen that the Colombian cyclist Fernando Gaviria, who tested positive in the UAE in February, tested positive again at the Giro d'Italia this month, despite the comprehensive precautions being taken in Italy

Vaccines may well be more effective in preventing the reinfections, but it does look like they'll become an annual addition to the flu jab

The Oxford Vaccine is looking promising. Report on BBC news yesterday that it has a stronger response in the elderly.
Let's hope different strains of Covid-19 don't develop like with the flu.
Hopefully Chess does return to normal early next year.

It would seem as the winter progresses people catching it twice will become more commonplace. Imperial College London have found an average drop of 26% in antibodies over 4 months. Given more time those people will be as vulnerable to catching it as everyone else; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54696873

That may be the case, but not necessarily.

Received the following update re Stiges chess, which is scheduled in Spain for Dec 12-23:

Thank you for your interest in our Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival 2020.
We would love to arrange this edition of the Festival. At this point of time we wish to maintain the event, however nowadays we depend a lot on the Government decisions and restrictions.
You can register or confirm the reservation if you wish and in case of the event cancellation we will refund the money. Otherwise, you can wait closer to the date and write us back. The only thing that changes is that the inscription fee raises after November 15th.

There seems to be quite a few players already registered.

I think it will all depend on Spanish government actions: if they go on full lockdown for 2-3 weeks, I guess it will be ok, otherwise the number of infections will be too high by then.

Not at all sure what "full lockdown" means here
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I mentioned in the Obscure International OTB Events Going Ahead Topic on 12th October about some OTB events taking place in Spain.
I mentioned Sitges but also a couple of events in Barcelona. I think one is called ll ellobregat 29th November to 8th December.
I'll see if I can find anymore.
The only new ones I've found in the last few days is in New Zealand.

I have received interesting advice via email from the Czech Ministry of the Interior:

Dear Tim,

Travelling from the United Kingdom is currently without testing or quarantine obligation since it is at the territory of low risk countries in green zone.

However, according to the new resolution adopted by the government of the Czech Republic, free movement of people in the territory of the Czech Republic is limited. Purpose of the entry into the Czech Republic by the citizens of foreign countries is being controlled.

Turism and visit of friends is not allowed.

During a random inspection you should be able to prove the purpose of your stay here in the Czech Republic with some document (working contract etc.). There are no such a control at the borders or at the airports.

See:

https://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/file/resolut ... sures.aspx

It is possible that situation will change rapidly, we advise you follow the MoI website for the latest information about coronavirus: https://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/article/coro ... f-moi.aspx
