Non-IoM Residents

Access to the Isle of Man remains tightly restricted for non-residents.

There are a small number of categories that allow for entry to the island, but ONLY where an individual has been provided with an Exemption Certificate. This is a limited group of people who are necessary to the Island’s critical national infrastructure or for the preservation of human life.

As a non-resident, it is not possible to enter the island without an Exemption Certificate. This is a legal requirement, and failure to comply is a criminal offence.

It is also a legal requirement to undertake 14 days of mandatory self-isolation and you must not leave your accommodation during this period.

With current rules, It looks as if the tournament is effectively restricted to Isle of Man residents. (If there's a direct flight, Guernsey residents can also visit).

Back in March or April there was a news report about someone in the isle of Man being locked up for breaking the quarantine regulations.

A lot of forum members are more informed than me on these matters. Quarantine rules seem to be in constant flux.
If the rules do change at least there wil be another OTB in the diary for some people.

On a different note.
Just been on the Australian Chess Federation website.
Sounds like the Tasmanian Open has gone ahead this weekend.
Over the next number of weeks their seems to be a few major OTB tournaments going ahead over there, particularly in Queensland.

Playing Blitz with masks/face shields on in Innsbruck, Austria which has just finished won by the Latvian GM Meshkovs with 9.5/11.

At the moment your chess playing possibilities in comparable tournaments appear to be:

Groningen - going ahead unless something changes to prevent that. Detailed arrangements to be published in September.

Krakow - possibly going ahead. The Polish language entry form has been published, but the foreign language ones haven't been. No other information available as far as I'm aware.

Rilton Cup - must be in considerable doubt. No announcements at all about this year's tournament on their website or on their Facebook page.

There is an announcement about the Rilton Cup now - it's cancelled.

I've just been on the Northumberland Chess Congress website.
The number of entries have increased to 43.
On the list there are players travelling from as far as Watford, Cirencester and Newbury.

That was announced on the FIDE website. But I decided it was likely to be too much hassle, even though I have never been to Bulgaria. Also the hotel had poor reviews.

New entry from Coulsdon, London. 179 grade for Northumberland Chess Congress which increases total entries to 44 so far.
According to the Castle Chess website, 12 people have entered Fareham Congress currently.
For Harrogate Chess Congress, I can't find a list of entries on the website.
