Chess tournaments need organisers. If none is willing to do so, then they won't take place.

Just amplifying a little on the newly added CzechTour events: Hradec Kralove is Oct 31- Nov 7, while Brno is Nov 14-21 (the latter clashes with Malta, so I guess for me the ideal would be Kradec Kralove followed by Malta - I hope that doesn't mean I miss a lot of chess activity in the UK!).

Can they be found on the Fide website?
Or is there a website somewhere showing all fide rated standard tournaments?

CzechTour do not seem to use the Fide site.
There is https://chess-calendar.eu/ but it is a nightmare to wade thru

I (naively) thought it was mandatory for fide tournament to notify fide in advance, and hence all would be listed on that calendar?

Not naive at all. Your incorrect assumption is that registering a tournament for rating puts it on the calendar. It doesn't. They are separate actions.

Here's a list of all tournaments registered for rating in England in October (which means they are due to have completed between late August and late September). You can browse that for other countries and months. I don't think you can get a single list of every tournament taking place in every country.

It doesn't look as if there's an obligation to also report event cancellation to FIDE.

You are supposed to report event cancellations to FIDE and the ECF normally does so.

However, only the FIDE Elista Office can act on the information and, for some reason, they don't.

To get round this failing, I have noted that some Federations have amended the titles of their tournaments to include the word "cancelled", or something similar.

Another option is to change the dates, so that approval is required as there is seemingly now less than seven days' notice. The details disappear from the published information then.

If and when confusion is likely to arise, the ECF may have to start doing one or other of these two things on a regular basis.

All very annoying.

I've just found a chess calendar by chance called Chess- Calendar.eu and it has the wrong dates for Northumberland and Harrogate Chess Congresses.

There is a 178 grade that has just entered Isle of Man Chess Congress. Total entries have increased to 10.
Fareham Congress entries have increased to 15.

Morning all.
Here is the latest count for the forthcoming OTB tournaments.
Manx Chess Championship Entries 11.
A 189 grade has just entered.
Castle Chess Fareham Congress Entries 17.
Northumberland Congress Entries 52.
Looks to be a strong tournament already with Tim Wall, Niamh Bridgeman and Ben Graff playing.
All the best, Simon.

Good to see the numbers increasing.
Anyone looking for a smart new T-shirt to wear to one of these congresses could start searching here: https://shop.donaldjtrump.com/collections/apparel-men
