Not necessarily. The ban does not apply to "organised team sports".Wadih Khoury wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 10:38 pmSeems the hope for a start of the season is now lost:

I did think about it, and you could theoretically then organise team competitions.
Not sure whether chess as a sport would hold in England.
Well, at least for once the rule is getting a bit clearer.

Social gatherings are currently restricted to 30 people indoors and will be reduced to six after the weekend. Yet the Northumberland Chess Congress had approval from the local authority, and presumably the director of public health had a hand in writing the conditions, for up to 120 players. If players abide by the conditions has anything changed? I suppose we have to wait for the detail.

Not if the venue has CoViD-19 Secure status. If it does, it's like any other workplace.David Gilbert wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 12:53 amSocial gatherings are currently restricted to 30 people indoors and will be reduced to six after the weekend.

Two people sat at one chess board would seem fine, just as six people can sit at one restaurant table

It does refer very specifically to workplace so the Northumberland Open might be stretching it....

As usual there is likely to be a big difference between what we are actually allowed to do and what the Government wants us to think we are allowed to do. The media briefings will obviously reflect the latter. We won't know the former until the new regulations are published, presumably in a day or two.

Supermarkets have now largely abandoned one way systems. Why doesn't a give way to oncoming traffic approach work as seen on narrow bridges and traffic calmed roads? Also from road management, there's the concept of a box junction, where you don't enter unless the exit is clear.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 8:37 amAnother photo from the recent Innsbruck tournament where they had a one way system going:

Re: (Chess) Life Returning To Normal
The abandonment of such measures or the introduction of seemingly plausible alternatives rather depends on the effectiveness of any enforcement and the desire of the general population to comply. Many have become resistant to complying with rules because they no longer consider the risk to be significant enough to justify changes in personal behaviour. So you need buy-in. But that is made less likely by the mixed messaging and juggling of the economic and personal health priorities.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 10:06 amSupermarkets have now largely abandoned one way systems. They also ignored the huge question of whether the long term damage was caused by the virus itself or the intrusive methods used to treat it.Alan Walton wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 12:16 amReading through this article; it says it was an extensive study, but they didn’t ask the patients concern whether or not they had a pre-existing lung condition.
I would have thought that would have been the first thing to ask.

I have entered and am proposing to fly to Prague and travel on by train, which looks very simple. However, I am awaiting confirmation that masks will not be mandatory before finalising my plans.

I will be cheering you on in the tournament if it goes ahead.
I'll send you a PM as soon as I can.
I'm afraid I have a backlog of other PMs to go through.
All the best, Simon.
