Online British championship

So, we are to have our first high profile uk tournament online at Christmas.
How do people feel it will all work out, and are there many forum users tempted to give it a go?

I wondered whether the Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man and Ulster chess federations were happy with, and had agreed to, the championship qualification criteria for an event described as a British Championship.

I would imagine not and if they are being excluded that out to be explained. Perhaps it's just an oversight?

In order to participate in these Championships, all players must either: - Have a FIDE Nationality of ENG, IRL, SCO, WLS, GCI or JCI; or - Have been continuously resident in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man since 1st January, 2020; or - Be a British or Irish citizen.

My point was that Ireland, Scotland and Wales can nominate one player to take part in the online championship without them having to qualify, whereas Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man and Ulster cannot.

That's different from the OTB championships where all nations can nominate at least one player.

They aren't exactly nations though, I don't see why they should be given the same rights as full established tax paying countries

That's true but they all fall under the umbrella of the geographical construct the British isles and welcome those of us from the mainland. What can be gained from them being excluded?

The restrictions on Jersey etc seem proportionate to me, given restrictions on the total numbers allowed (presumably to do with arbiters watching players over zoom?)

It is also the case that, supposing every ENG grandmaster entered, not all of them would be able to play in the main event as some would fail to qualify.

Although it seems very odd to deliberately run the main British event with an odd number.
