Stockfish 13

Post by Ian Thompson » Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:34 pm

The thread on Fat Fritz 2 encouraged me to download and install Stockfish 13.

When I run it, I see this analysis window:
Stockfish 13.jpg
What's the 17.0% telling me? With my previous engine that box was always empty. In the time it's taken me to write this post the number has increased to 97.5%.

It's what it uses to store its assessment of positions it's already evaluated, so it doesn't have to evaluate them again if the same position arises in multiple variations.

Hi Phil, The term "hash table" as used for chess engine computer programs is not the usual meaning or purpose compared to applications in general computing, although hashing techniques are used. This is similar to misuse of the word "variance" when chess ratings are discussed.
