Good stuff but what about the annual horn dance as the most notable claim to fame?
Ooh I'm glad someone knows about that! The question we are most asked though is 'when is the school reopening' , I used to work there and it was very sad for everyone and looks challenging at the moment in these times.

As for the Horn Dance it got cancelled last year for the first time in hundreds of years: https://abbotsbromley.com/information/horn_dance/

It usually takes place in September so hopefully will get going again!

The Unthanks did a TV feature on it, a half dozen or so years back, otherwise it would have escaped my attention.

I've found quite a few that are reopening on my travels around the country.
Perhaps you could report on these?
Get ready for this great news.
Here it is:
It was sadly reported a number of months ago that the York R.I. Chess Club (which was situated next to York Railway Station at the Railway Institute) had lost their venue after many years.
Well, I am pleased to announce that the club has found a new venue, however the club night will change from a Tuesday to a Wednesday night.
They are hoping to open on Wednesday 23rd June.
This is the address:
Guppy's Enterprise Club,
17 Nunnery Lane,
York,
YO23 1AB

Fleet and Farnborough Chess Club has held a couple of meetings, but is (a) restricted by limited venue opening, but critically (b) facing diminished numbers at both age ends :(

I am a past member of Fleet & Farnborough Chess Club (formerly Hart Chess Club) and it has an excellent venue at Cody Sports and Social Club. Huge car park and bar.

However, it is very much "tucked away" in Pyestock.

Former members include Harry Grieve and Simon Williams. It was here that I first met Harry (but my name was never Sally) and it was clear as mustard he had much talent.

Fenton Chess Club in North Staffs have been playing outside throughout the pandemic - often with extra warm clothing and with our umbrellas up !! We have now been open indoors for the past 3 weeks.

Also in the North Midlands Telepost Chess Club, based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, reopened a couple of weeks ago.
They play on Monday evenings at The Telepost Chess Club, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY2 6BT
This was posted on their website in the News and Diary Section on the 10th June:
"15 months after our last non-virtual club night, the doors will finally be open to the chess club (and left open for ventilation!) at Telepost on Monday 14th June."
"A number of Covid measures will be in place, including the requirement to wear masks while moving about, use of sanitiser and cleaning of equipment."
"We look forward to welcoming members old and new as we navigate these new arrangements."

Is that 1970-71, Robert Byrne and Raymond Keene? Not sure who is spectating. Krogius played that year.

Paul,

This is the official Getty Images caption:

I understand Bolton reopened last week with 8 attendees, and despite lots of Covid precautions, 1 tested positive the following day, so the other 7 are having to isolate

At Bury, we've decided to reopen on 17 August i.e. after the date when self isolation ends for u18s and the double vaccinated
