Have we reached a point in time where we need to consider new timings for the OTB and Online playing "seasons"?

Maybe OTB would best occur between March and November

and Online for December until February?

Discuss...

I hope not, as that would leave me having to cancel a whole load of stuff planned for between now and the end of Feb!

I am mainly thinking of evening league chess rather than tournaments.

If the Government keeps locking down/inhibiting social contact then yes for evening league. Would need to have seasons Sept-Dec and April- July. Timing can be guessed at if we restrict again and when we come out of it. After Easter is a safe bet.

Fair enough - I have a few of those too, but it does make good sense.

As far as I am concerned, and I believe in common with many other players, evening league chess and chess are the same thing.

It comes as no surprise that some people would like to cancel them.

I do wonder if you could get the player base you'd need/want. There's a few Summer evening leagues about the place, but they do tend to get far fewer players overall than the winter ones.

I know that I personally really dislike playing chess in mid Spring, let alone Summer

This is a presumption that what has happened for the last few winters will occur ever more.

There are still several reasons to doubt that will actually be the case, at this stage. I'm sure I don't need to rehearse them yet again
