Tonight's Coronation Street on ITV 8pm to 9pm is the end of the chess storyline where Sam faces his opponent in the Chess final.
My friend from York Chess Club, Noel Stewart, brought out a chess book the beginning of last year titled:
Chess: A Beginner's Guide.
A4 size, 258 pages.
Noel has informed me by text that his book will appear briefly in the episode.

Off-topic, in Neighbours yesterday, Paul Robinson was so furious that he picked up his prized chess set, threw the pieces down and smarted smashing the board about.

That could be the title a new thread. 'Scenes from Films or TV Where a Chess Set Has Been Trashed.'

I noted a number years ago that if ever a chess set was in a scene it was there to be tipped over,

Not just chess sets are there to be trashed, computers tend to also be victims (although, let's face it, who has not thought about breaking chess engines...)

The earliest one I can call to mind was in Yield To The Night, where Diana Dors was the one dashing the pieces to the floor (and calling chess "that stupid game", IIRC).

The Devil Rides Out had a set on view in the Duke's sumptuous living-room, but it remained inviolate (despite having the board the wrong way round).

You do realise all this thread is usually on Chess in the Media?

I know Swinton chess academy was involve and adam scoular has some pictures on the facebook page

How did Coronation Street come across this encounter?

Keep us up to date if chess is back on Coronation Street. They treated the game reasonably well the last time I saw it.

Roy was playing chess in tonight's episode I gather, not sure if anyone saw it and knows what was played

It's on youtube, and if not a fan of corrie, a bit tricky to fathom.

I am told it was on last Wednesday, but you couldn't see much of it at all
