Access to LiChess and Chess.com

Post by Andy Stoker » Sun Jul 03, 2022 8:56 am

Can anyone who is more computer-literate than me advise me here, please?
I use a laptop provided by my employer, which I am allowed to use for modest personal matters but on which certain restrictions are imposed - eg I cannot access Spotify and get a warning if I try to use Google Drive. Software is automatically downloaded by the corporate IT system I log into.
For some time, I have not been able to play "live" games on Chess.com (but can access "daily" games). I could play live games on Lichess - but my access to that has suddenly stopped. If I try to start a live game, a sign of "reconnecting" appears - and I never progress to a game - which is similar to what happens on chess.com.
Any ideas, please? Or do I just accept that my company doesn't want me to play games on its equipment (reasonably enough)?

Businesses often will not allow access to gaming sites. I am afraid it is standard practice.

Fair enough ... their prerogative - it's just that I've had access to Lichess until this w/e...

Hi Andy,

I had the same trouble. My I.T. dept. allowed me on here and Red Hot Pawn
but other chess sites were fire-walled. (apparently they are not safe, but I think
it was because I being paid to work and not play or look at chess. Huh!)

It use to drive me potty coming on here and seeing the guys talking about
games without so much as a diagram. See your resident I.T. chappie,
(my one always smelt of coffee so follow your nose.) He may make a few sites
available for you... or maybe he won't. It's his neck if 'something' creeps in.

(watch his face when you say you want log onto chess bomb! He can
suddenly see the SAS crashing though the windows and him getting tasered,)
