Tournament | Congress | Festival Promotion Question

Post by Jon Hill » Sun Jul 03, 2022 5:54 pm

Apart form the English Chess Forum, what are people's views as the best way to inform people of a Tournament, Congress or Festival details?

The ECF Calendar is a potential route.

You could stick a message in the forums on lichess or chess.com - they might close your account out of spite but if you get a few extra entrants it would be worth it (and it's easy enough to make a fake account just for this purpose to protect your main one)
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Definitely Facebook for anything I organise where I'm looking to recruit players rather than inviting them.

Do you use the paid advertising Lawrence, and if so, do you think that it is effective?

That's an interesting thought Joey, thanks.

I played at Cleethorpes yesterday and they got a very good entry for a pretty out of the way place. The organizers sent out a lot of E-mails - I think they took addresses of various county websites etc. A mail to a county team organizer can soon find its way to a network of quite a few players and I think people are very happy to promote a new venture if it just involves a click of a button :D

Definitely not! I don't know anyone who does but, in my case, reaching "friends" and their friends is sufficient.
