What are you going to do after 37.Kxc3 Ke3 38.Kb3? The rook has to go to 38... Ra4, then 39.Nc4+ Kf2 40.Ne5 and White has stopped the pawn queening.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:10 pmI prefer 36...Bxc3+ and I'd still play that after considering all the above, as I'd prefer to be in a cleanly winning BvN endgame

i would strongly sugest you try more forcing combinations as kotov says in his think like a gm book and not such complex obscure lines that can easily go wrong, black is on the defensive and happy to draw.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:16 pmWhat are you going to do after 37.Kxc3 Ke3 38.Kb3? Would you believe I completely missed 39.Nc4+ in that line?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:16 pmWhat are you going to do after 37.Kxc3 Ke3 38.Kb3? The rook has to go to 38... Does this means that in the game 36.Kb3 would be the best move, bringing the knight back into play via c4? Not sure what White's best move is for move 36, but 36.Kd2 is very natural (but fails to the combination discussed in this thread).

if 36 Kb3 then 36...Ra4 when 37 Nc4?? fails to 37...Kd3!! and 37 c4 to 37...Bf8!! its a tricky position but comp says -0.60 abouts of course it goes without saying that i would without a silicon friend in the actual game have gone wrong there. my thinking was just to play 36...Kd3 and accept another loss of another pawn i was panicking there the line i saw went 36 Kb3 Kd3 37 Kxa2 Kc2 (threatening Bc1 and queening) but then i saw later that 38 Rh1 put the boot up my plan but continued regardless.

To my human eye i thought i had been totally outplayed so was very surprised when computer analysis afterwards pointed to me actually winning!!!!
