You can perhaps wonder whether some gadget along those lines was the secret behind some unexplained performances in amateur chess. Being unable to reproduce OTB performances at Blitz chess might have been a clue.

Please no puns along the lines of "sock it to him" or "played his socks off".

Will magnetic socks now be banned from poorly heated chess venues?

As I recall someone from the West Country who rating became IM standard in a year was an active member of a Raspberry Pi forum.

Whatever happened to that person?

Doesn't sound as though shoe-computer technology (or reliability thereof) has improved much since the Eudaemons* were active in the 1970s.

Retired from chess after 4-5 month Dorset reign of terror and settled for bragging on his LinkedIn profile how he was ranked around the 50th best player in England and was their fastest improving junior of all-time!
