First round yesterday included Caruana 3-0 Carlsen ( meaning that he won their classical game, so no need for Armageddon ).

Firouzja, the ( questionable ) second seed, is also on nul points.

I'm looking forward to round two in an hour.

Carlsen, rather unusually for him, flopped somewhat in the introductory blitz event as well.

Take a look at Tari - Abdusattarov. Amazing game by both, they just don't recognise risk.

I would just like to mention that Shohreh Bayat is the Chief Arbiter this year.

I was just watching the TV coverage of the end of Gukesh-Nakamura, with both players down to the increment. Someone, not identifiable in the shot, but presumably an arbiter, gave both players a second scoresheet, placing it on top of the first scoresheet. Nakamura lost some time moving it out of the way to write his last move down on the first scoresheet.

10 second increment, so why was that a problem?

I was surprised that they were still scoring the game, but they were choosing to do so, and the arbiter disrupted that.

Shouldn't this thread be in the International section?

I wondered that when I set it running. The description is
"International News ____ The very latest International round up of English news"
so I decided against.

I was disappointed to see the following on Lichess: "We apologise for the disruption to the Norway Chess 2023 Broadcast. As in previous years, access to the facts of the games (moves and clock times) has been exclusively provided by the organisers to only some third parties and is so denied to Lichess."

I guess that this is what you get when one provider (chess.com) has an effective monopoly (little choice).

It may say that, but became a de facto "general international stuff" section some time ago.

WC matches and Candidates events are on there for example, despite the paucity of "home grown" involvement.

I wouldn't be upset if it were moved.
