I can't give proof because the person who wrote it isn't going to hand it over and isn't answering questions anymore. But I can confirm the association closest to it refused to follow suit, stating that it was a waste of time and won't change anything.

There is an association in the UK that has objected to the government splashing out £1,000,000 on chess and has written a letter of complaint to them. Can you guess who it is?

I will keep trying but the president of the association in question isn't willing to share his letter and I don't think I can do anything about it but I will try once or twice more.

So who is it that's up in arms about the government allocating £1,000,000 on chess then? It's not as difficult to work out as you might think.

I note you say an association and not a chess association although it probably wouldn’t have been a chess association anyway.

Given it looks like a lot of the money is just being redistributed from elsewhere you can understand why any association which is losing funding as a result of money being switched to chess might complain.

Edit and yes, it probably won’t change the government’s mind at least in the short term

Yes you have a good point there but it is an association closer to chess than you might think.

I should add a member of that association has just cited 'unfair distribution'.

Is the association complaining about the £1m and/or how much/little the devolved nations/associations are receiving?

About the amount of money spent on chess (and not other board games).

Yes, go would have more of a case but be more likely to realise the futility of complaining

It wasn't them, it's one of the draughts associations in the UK. (not the English Draughts Association)

I wouldn't have thought grumbling about it would go down too well with the people deciding what to do with the money! You would probably move even further down the list. Surely it's much better to say, "You have shown great wisdom with this excellent decision, but we feel our activity is also worthy of support, and we would be most grateful if you could perhaps consider us in the future." (continues for many pages)

I wouldn't worry too much, people make a sport of 'being offended' on the internet regardless of whether they actually care about the issue but there are so many of these screwballs that it is just becoming white noise and easily ignored - one person can never make a difference

Arguably they can if they are powerful enough, though that certainly doesn't seem to be the case here.
