Speed Chess Championship 2023

Post by Paul Cooksey » Wed Sep 20, 2023 5:35 pm

Just to mention the second semi today between Nakamura and MVL is underway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiVfC7KD1P4

I am hoping closer than Magnus's demolition of So yesterday. The Final is Friday evening.

By far my favourite of the plethora of online events.

So played a number of uncharacteristically bad moves/blunders in that match.

So has always had a bit of a mental block against Magnus, it's like he really doesn't like playing against him and definitely doesn't enjoy the fallout if he pulls off a win (even though the wins he picks up are usually tactical brilliancies)
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Magnus-Hikaru at 7pm.

You could argue this is the closest thing to a world championship match we will get this year

If it were bullet then it might be, but at that time limit Magnus should absolutely smash Nakamura

He should yes but he's losing endgames too often.

It looked like Hikaru was going to win the last two to level the match but Magnus somehow survived to win by the narrowest of margins.

Great match, some shocking turnarounds in some of the games.
