I was wondering about these new FEN codes that people use to generate positions, they look like total gibberish to me but I assume there must be some kind of logic to them?
Does anyone know how they work and, more importantly, if there are any websites that allow you to generate them (or better yet, has a bunch of preset ones for specific positions) as it could be a useful coaching tool to save a lot of time generating positions online for every training exercise I wanted to do in a session

Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I don't think they are new being based on Forsyth notation, which is something one needed to know in the days of adjudications and adjournments.Joey Stewart wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 12:24 pmDoes anyone know how they work and, more importantly, if there are any websites that allow you to generate them

It's top down, starting from a8 and reading from left to right towards h1.
There's an option in lichess to create FEN strings.
