I was surpised he played 28 Ne5. I thought that 28 Bxg7 Kxg7 29 Ng5 looked very strong answering Rh8 with 30 Qd4. Obviously Mickey would have seen this but maybe missed something in the game continuation. I'm sure Mickey will still be trying to win but not sure how viable it is though. I'd be a bit paranoid about the white king but someone 400 points higher than me will have more idea what's really happening.

Wonder what happened on board 11 where the Georgian had any number of forced draws - most obviously with Re5 and Rc5 - with 35 minutes on his clock and appears to have let his time run out.

Very strange.

I assume she played Rxe5+ and Rc5 or agreed a draw because of it. I'm sure it's a draw but it hasn't registered on the board for some reason.

Now shows as drawn - presumably Black's clock was left running. Didn't realise Javakhishvili was a she

Cheparinov- Speelman is potentially a very interesting endgame. Chepa has refused the three fold rep - but it looks very much like a Speelman position, particularly with an extra hour on the clcok

That's another draw I didn't predict.

The only players starting early were those who could be in a play-off later. The games not started early contained two players who couldn't reach the play-offs even if they won, because their TPRs would be too low. (The play-offs have a maximum size of four players.)

Do you mean contained six players as there are three games involving 6.5s not being played at 10 (or not being broadcast which I assume means not being played)?

I wonder if the remaining women have an advantage in knowing the two results of the women playing this morning. Plenty left to play for anyway.

What is the likely format of the play-offs (depending on numbers)?

So what is the format for the play off?
Not sure. Semi final and final maybe, 1v4 2v3 etc depending on tie-breaks but no doubt Jack will let us know in due course. Not sure if the total prize money will be at stake or a percentage. Also no idea which players still playing have a chance of breaking into the top 4 or if none of them can.

Hi,

Adams and Gustafsson are definitely there

By having the 6.5 playing they expected that one or more could make is above Pons and Movsesian

So I expect that Movsesian is definitely out, and maybe even Pons depending on other results

The four players in the playoffs will be Gustafsson, Adams, Vallejo Pons and Sandipan.
