An Incorrect Opening by Tony Boucher

I've started reading 'An Incorrect Opening' by Tony Boucher. There are 25 chapters, each one headed by the White moves from the game Tony Miles v Walter Browne, Lucerne Olympiad 1982.

Chapter one is 1.Nf3 Chapter two is 2.Pc4. etc onto Chapter twenty five which is 25.Qg7 mate even though the game did not end in mate, Walter resigned on move 23. I figure perhaps the story may have too end that way. I'm only on chapter three '3.Nc3.' Which is a good sign, that means I'm OK with it.
Normally I've decided by chapter two or three if the book is any good or charity shop fodder.

The story so far...The main character has been given a chess set by a complete stranger and the set appears to be haunted. The book has been dedicated to Tony Miles.

Hi Andrew,

I'm into it and like the writing style, not got to meat of it yet. World Chess Championship, cubs training, other stuff on the go as well but looking forward to picking up again.

I finished it which is a good recommendation from me. I throw away more books than
I finish in a year. I pick up interesting looking from books the 5 for a £1.00 bin or there are
now a couple of libraries in Edinburgh that are giving away their stock for free so I
always have lots to choose from. I give them a chance, but if it's not grabbed me...charity shop.

The Tony Boucher book is OK, good. There is loads of chess in it but with talking moves
instead of notation. (I placed my Knight in front of my King's Bishop pawn etc..)
The main character is a bit of an oddball, I related to him right away.
I'm passing it on to a chess friend.
