Every so often we hear about someone that plays chess and we are surprised, whether it's a footballer or an actor.
I have just been reading "Secrets and Lies", the autobiography of Christine Keeler. For the uninitiated, she was well-known in the entertainment industry. She makes a couple of references to playing chess and bridge, and doing crosswords.
One of the highlights of the book is the claim that Lord Boothby concurrently had affairs with Ronnie Kray and Lady Dorothy MacMillan (wife of the Prime Minister), which seems a rather startling mix of companions.

Boothby's "interesting" personal life was known to those in power at the time, but largely covered up.
