One of the greatest chess biography!

Post by matt_ward » Mon May 03, 2010 7:08 pm

Hello All, A book which I am in process of reading I would recommend its a must read " The Wandering King", it's all about his life and people's experience on him.

Briefly the book is about his legacy! A must read for every chess player, some content might be inappropriate for some viewers.

King Regards Matt. :D :D :D

Matt,

while I appreciate and enjoy your enthusiasm, even by your standards this is a badly written post.

Would it be too much to include the name of the person who is the subject of the book that you are enjoying so much?

Hi, I would assume you knew it's about Robert James Fischer.

No, but he had an insatiable appetite for cheeseburgers. Don't know if this is pertinent.

Bobby's diet wasn't great by all accounts  . Anyway, the book is an OK book - but if you want to find a real read, try Jan Hein Donner - "The King". Probably cost you £20 - if you can't afford that, order through what remains of the Library service

I can second that - "The King" is a superb book, fully deserving of the praise it gets.

Sosonko's trilogy on (mostly) Soviet chess is also strongly recommended

I'll third that. But I liked Sosonko's "Russian Silhouettes," etc. better. They evoke the memories of a bygone chess era. I particularly liked the portrait of Eduard Gufeld.

This is normally when Simon S comes on and says "if you can read Donner's book in the original Dutch, it's so much better".

Yes Russian Silhouettes is a fantastic book. Santa was kind enough to bring me the third edition last Chrimbo
