I have not had a rapidplay grade for like a decade it feels.

I played @ richmond earlier in this "chess year" and played 6 games, will i get a grade from this?

Ben

Dunno how many games you will need but I would guess 6 wouldn't be enough, and probably 3 rapidplay tournaments would do it for an E grade. Richmond is on again next sunday and there is Golders Green once a month.

You need a minimum of 9 games to get a grade so playing in next weeks Richmond Rapidplay (May 23rd) before the grading cut-off date of May 31st should do the trick.

2006 in fact :? http://grading.bcfservices.org.uk/getre ... ef=179779H

Like Mike says I assume one more event this month or failing that I'm sure you'll have one on the following list if you play 4NCL rapid or somewhere else

Are many of you forum users planning to play the 4ncl rapid? I have been doing a few tournaments to try and practise for such a great event - hopefully it will be even better then the main league.

Ben, you need to play 9 games between June 1st - May 31st to get a grade. If you played 6 in July, then if you play three more games at Richmond on the 23rd May, you would get a grade.

In theory, there's nothing to stop you organising three rapidplay games of chess against a friend at a club night, and having those graded - as long as you play them before May 31st and they conform to rapidplay time limits (>= 15 mins, <= 60 mins each). Of course, you will have to pay the Game Fee of £1.50 in total for the three games, and find a grader willing to grade them. I am doing something similar next week - two of my players have played 8 graded games this season, so they're going to play each other to get their 9th game.

A player needs to have played 9 games in three years rather than one, with at least one game played in the current season. So 9 games between 1 June 2007 and 31 May 2010 will do the trick for Ben.

Actually, while we are on the subject, what is the deal with the grading letter? I played 29 rapid games between june and january and, yet, I only got given a C rating - If 30 is supposed to be the threshold for an A rating then how the heck are you supposed to get a B when it seems to consider it to be a C right up to one game before the A??
I emailed about this anomaly but was told that they dont have time to correct such things and I should have played more games, but perhaps somebody here might be able to help me more.

A - Grade based on 30 or more games in the latest season
B - Grade based on 30 games in the two latest seasons, of which at least 20 were played in the latest season
C - Grade based on 30 games in the latest three seasons, of which at least 10 were played in the latest season
D - Grade based on 15 or more games in the latest three seasons, of which at least 5 were in the latest season
E - Grade based on 9 or more games in the latest three seasons, of which at least 1 was played in the latest season

I suspect it's something to do with the definition of latest season. It's problematic for mid-season grades, and my guess is that it means last year, hence you being a C.

However, I'm surprised they use these letters at all. It shouldn't make any difference to you at all - are you really bothered?

There's an additional * rating for rapidplay grades. If you play 30 games in the last half-season (i.e. grading interval), you can get a * letter instead.

I am bothered only because there are some nitpicking statisticians who say a rating is not worthy if it is not an A grade, and I just like to stick it to those types and be able to beat them at their own game.

If an event, advertised as Rapidplay with 25 or 30 minutes each per game, were played under Blitz rules, are the game results eligible for RP grading ?

There are several tournaments like this. Just before the start of the first round they announce that Blitz rules apply, when there has been no indication of this on the entry form. I guess the objective is to give the arbiter an easier time as 10.2 s are prevented.

If results were sent in would the graders know they had been played under blitz rules ?
