Later than advertised, Frank Turner makes a second appearance.

I have a sudden yearning to play in the rapidplay on Sunday - is there any way I can enter now by phone or e-mail and paying by Paypal? If I pay on the day it's £5 late fee, whereas if I manage to somehow enter beforehand it's only £2!

Jon - paypal seems your best option. Drop an email off to Roger at BritChessChamp@yahoo.co.uk

Stewart and Wilf - The players did place the kings correctly in the centre but get holding them so it did not register. It is best for players to press the kings down on the board. I couldn't intervene as I was watching another game which required my presence. How annoying to see something happen and be unable to do anything about it.

Thanks Adam & Alex.

I tried phoning but was told it's too late to enter by e-mail or phone and that I should try turning up on the day, which is what I shall have to do since I've already booked accommodation and coach tickets!

Anyway, it looks like I should have a fairly easy time of it since there are only a couple of kids (Brandon Clarke and James Adair) and a has-been (Dominic Mackle) with significantly higher grades than mine.

What on earth is 9. ... b5 all about on board 1? I used to play the Stonewall Attack (*) as White myself, but I had to give it up because I could never beat anyone higher than 150 with it. I'll be watching closely to see how two players significantly higher than 150 handle it.

(*) Who was the fool who wrote a book recommending that rubbish for White back in the 1980s? I swear it stopped me ever developing into a proper chess player.

No, I don't use ICC. We'll discuss the "idiot" remark when we meet in person.

It looks like Jack Rudd has sprung a nice trap to win a pawn:

12. ... exd
13. Nxd5 Qd8 (to defend the knight)
14. Bb6 wins back the piece
