Hello All,
I could not resist posting a Topic on something I have been looking at playing against the caro Kann, I can't say I have noticed Alexei Shirov's line in the Caro Kann been played for ages the white side in the advance variation.
1. e4, c6 2.d4, d5 3. e5, Bf5 4.Nc3, e6 5. g4, Bg6.
I was just wondering does anybody know if this line as purely gone out of fashion because it is not been played at top level chess recently or as much anymore, and could this be why at club level this line is almost unpresidented.
I have been looking at the line with about 4000 plus games with it and it definitely seems to score well for white, if black is not careful. Although I have been analysis this with Hiarcs and Rybka and it does not seem to handle it that badly.
And black seems to equalize without much trouble. Their seems to be a good majority of world champions, and world championship contenders that have played this line in the modern era though.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Kind Regards Matt.
Has this Shirov's line gone out of fashion against the caro?

Hi Matt,
