Hello,
and sorry if this question has already been asked/answered.
Are the weekend events at the Britsish 2010 ECF/FIDE rated?
Many thanks
Trefor

Graded - yes
Rated - no
If it were FIDE-rated, then I assume the list of entrants would be sorted by their FIDE rating, not their ECF grade.

The weekenders are ECF graded but not FIDE Rated.
Apologies if I fail to answer any further questions about the British but for the next week or so my prime concern is the Scottish Championship.

Ok thanks for the speedy reply, I will probably give it a miss then
It's a shame that I am not able to get a rating unless I take a week off work, but considering how low it would probably turn out, maybe a blessing in disguise

Or you could play in the e2e4 Uxbridge International (requiring 3 days off work), guaranteeing you a full rating in one go if you score at least 1/9. Or any two of our forthcoming weekenders.

Thanks Sean, just checking at work now to find out whether the Sunningdale event is on one of my weekends off

I think I have 5 FIDE rated games so far - (I hope)
thanks

You have a FIDE ID, but you don't seem to have any games recorded. Please see
http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=418870 and click on "View All Previous Periods".
Also, are you really English? (Please forgive me asking, but your name sounds Welsh to me.)
Edit: Apologies to Bob Clark for the copycat nature of my almost simultaneous post.

My father is Welsh my mum from Yorkshire and I live in Kent
I do support Wales at Rugby and Football (so the FIFA World Cup wasn't too painful) and just to confuse you I am a Happy Hammer

I thought those pages only become active when one has a full established rating and show rating changes etc.
I see Mr Owens has played in the 4NCL where he faced at least four rated opponents so it should be OK.

The reason I asked is that your FIDE ID records you as English.
If you're happy with that, fine. If not, please ask the Welsh Chess Union to get it changed.
What you don't want to do is try and change it after you've got your FIDE Rating. That could cost you money - see
http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1869.

That used to be the case, but I thought that these days they were supposed to show the records of people with partial ratings.

It confuses me too, even though it's a subject about which I purport to have some knowledge.

Are you sure that four of his opponents were rated?
I can't find him in the rating report on the FIDE website at
http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_repo ... nt16=41967.
This may be one for Neville Belinfante.

The spreadsheet on the 4NCL website says that Mr. Owens only played 3 games in total, and only 1 of those was against a rated opponent.
