My favourite chess-related crime is the famous Julia Wallace murder -

Probably not that interesting - but when I was about 15 I played chess for a team in Northampton upstairs in a pub. About half way through the evening some sort of disturbance broke out downstairs. We all stopped the match had a quick discussion, baracaded the doors and carried on (not much else we could do really - no one was going down and it was the days before mobile phones).

When we left a few hours later I don't think there was any glass left intact downstairs - not just those you drink from but the windows too - can't remember the outcome of the match but at least none of us was hurt.
