I see that the Busy Persons event is limited to players rated below 2200, although it doesn't seem to say that on the entry form.

There is a typo in the prices table - the second "ADULT WEEKDAY" should read "ADULT WEEKEND".

The Busy Persons FIDE Open seems to have an identical schedule to the Weekend Open, ie 5 rounds in 2 days (30/75+15), followed by a further 4 rounds tacked on from Monday to Wednesday, at a more leisurely time limit (40/120 + 30). Is there any particular rationale for this? It looks like two different disciplines in one tournament.

It's an American idea of dubious value which enables the rich to re-enter after a poor start. Unless there's a rating restriction on the first 5 rounds, only the last 4 games are slow enough to be internationally rated.

Whether you can play the same person twice if you, they or both of you have re-entered remains to be seen.

Be careful with American imported ideas, next year you might be required to bring your own set, board and clock.

I'd love to play with my own set! I took my own DGT clock to club matches for several seasons before clubs starting investing in them.

The Busy Persons tournament is slightly different to the American system which happens at the World Open in Philidelphia, where you play in the same section but at different schedules, eventually converging into one tournament

This seems to be a separate tournament which caters for players who want to play over less days, and also giving bad performers in the 'normal' open a second chance

The Coaching events look very interesting. Anyone know who is leading them?

I take my own set and DGT XL clock for home matches and some opponents are happy for them in away matches also.

Looking at the playing schedule, it appears that they are following the American model (the busy persons' event starts with 3 hour playing sessions then moves to a 5 hour session, the same as the 'main' event.

It's the same tournament - the schedules converge. However the busy schedule does not allow for norms.

Is this correct Adam? I'm thinking of entering the 'busy persons' event but will only do so if all rounds are FIDE-rated.

If the time control is as stated (30/75 + 15), then it can't be FIDE-rated; you need 40 moves in the first time period (if you're going to have one) for it to be FIDE-rated.
