Hi all

I did an interesting video yesterday about a photo from the 1970 USSR vs Rest of world match

If you view the video from the following link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptwApluPdV0

Do you happen to know what Frederic Olafson looks like - what player number is he in your opinion ?!

You can use the red speech bubble underneath the video on the right to flip on or off the speech bubbles.

Best wishes

Can you post a version of the photograph without the labels obscuring the faces please?

I have the book of the match "Chess Meets of the Century" by Fischer and Bjelica which has photographs of the players.

In the group photograph there appears to be a young Karpov lurking in the background.

See http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Searc ... he+century

You'll see that this book commands a healthy price!

If Olafsson is in the group, his face is obscured by others in this shot. I think there are other versions of this famous pic taken from different angles which may show him clearly.

For a famous picture, I would hope better versions exist. Maybe even the original negative is still available somewhere to be carefully scanned and cleaned up to get as good a picture as possible? Does anyone maintain an archive of chess photographs anywhere? By which I mean original negatives and good quality prints, not collections of newspaper cuttings and photographs printed in books (scanning those gets poorer results than going back to the original and producing a new scan or print).

Fridrich Olafsson looked at the time akin to Hugh Lawrie wearing Eric Morecambe style glasses.

I cannot see him in this photograph unless he is the person talking with Gligoric.

Maybe he is taking the photograph?
