Chess-playing robot

Post by Christopher Kreuzer » Wed Nov 17, 2010 4:09 pm

This Chessbase report has hilarious clips of a chess-playing robotic arm. Do look at them both if you get a chance, and don't miss the body language of the GMs in the first clip.

It is a shame Kramnik is speaking in russian, as I am sure he is coming up with quite amusing comments, but I guess it is his first language so it is excusable. his attempt to shake the hand was funny.

Move the board a bit during the game, that'll confuse it. Or hide all the captured pieces so it can't find them when it wants to promote.

"Robot arm begins to learn, at a geometric rate. It becomes
self-aware at 2:14 a.m. eastern time, November 29.
In a panic, they try to pull the plug... "

we all now that the real problems will start in the network. This is no more than struggling with your computer when it tries to shut the CD drive at an inappropriate moment
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

If I boot in Windows, my disk drive automatically opens for some reason. When I was trying to install Ubuntu from a Live CD, this caused considerable problems...

Either that, or that short story by Asimov or Clarke where the telephone network gained consciousness.

Oh, in fact, the Terminator one (Skynet) became self-aware at 2:14am eastern time on August 29, 1997. Changing the month to November is designed to place it in our immediate future, as some have done with the recent Kinect thing.

It was Arthur C. Clarke's short story 'Dial F For Frankenstein' (1964) that had the global telephone network attaining consciousness (he gave the date for this as 1975).
