Hastings & St Leonards Chess Club will be open tomorrow (Monday 27th) from about 1:00 p.m. to about 6:00 p.m. for a Club rapid-play but also for anyone arriving for the Congress who fancies popping in and making themselves a cup of tea. (There are also at the moment still a couple of rapid play places going if wanted, 2:00 p.m. start - friendly, but ECF graded)

Address = 2 Cornwallis Terrace, Hastings; less than two minutes walk from railway station.

Weather permitting, of course, but it's quite clear down here, all snow and ice have gone.

I'm looking at the games via both PlayChess and the tournament provided game viewer. There is also a web cam available at

All seem to be working fine at 17.06

The viewer looks fine from here. Mark Hebden is an early casualty, well beaten by Dave Ledger.

I'm updating the results on the other Hastings thread under international news

If this is the Hastings thread, it's a bit sad. Why I logged on was to say please don't show your kids Pert - Ledger - or your grandad come to that. Fred Reinfeld spinning in his grave.

Or, for that matter, the opening play in Simon-Rudd. But Keith Arkell would probably enjoy that game.

I haven't had much of a chance to watch the games so far, but a quick look at the top boards today gave me the same jolt as last year when I also followed watching the London Chess Classic with Hastings. It's quite a shock when games suddenly end in draws - you (or at least I) kind of forget it can happen.


In other news, looks like frequent visitor to this parish Richard Bates had a tasty result today.

Richard seems to have played a rather attractive defensive exchange sacrifice idea today - dunno if it's enough if White ploughs on on the K side

Actually maybe its not that great - but Fritz has gone out with the wife and family for a few lagers. Sorry, what I mean is I have only the laptop
