Came across this and thought it worthy of discussion.

I found it especially amusing when the female presenter innocently asks Kasparov, was Fischer playing 'mind games'?

Please excuse my ignorance, but why is Bobbie considered female and Bobby considered male?

is there something in gender in terms of 'ie' or 'y' that I'm not aware of?

BTW, BTW isn't an acronym, merely an initialism. The distinguishing feature of an acronym is that it's an initialism pronounced as a word, such as NATO or OPEC. Acronyms may be written in all-caps or as normal words (although it's a good idea to have a consistent house style), non-acronym initialisms should be written in all-caps.
