Mtel Masters

Post by TomChivers » Wed May 07, 2008 4:26 pm

The Mtel Masters starts tomorrow, and...

Veselin Topalov
Vassily Ivanchuk
Levon Aronian
Bu Xiangzhi
Teimour Radjabov
Ivan Cheparinov

... are all playing.

Who do you want to win, and who do you think will win?

I don't think any are English, if there are I want that one to win. Other than that they can all loose really badly for me. I don't look up often I mostly look down and try and help them pass me. :D

Seriously though, good luck to them all especially Ivanchuk. I like some of the stuff he does.

Is Carlsen playing, because I quite like him...
To Drink or not to Drink, that is the question.

I Drink therefore I am.

I'm not as think as you drunk I am.

No, just the players I listed.

I think Topalov will win this one: time for him to make a massive comeback, and where better?

Chucky is my favourite for his originality and sheer excitement.

I agree, I think Topalov is due a big result and in this field I think that is very likely.

Mind you Lev Aronian has been improving lately and he may be the party pooper.

It'll also be interesting to see what happens opening-wise between Topalov and Cheparinov, since they prepare openings together. Perhaps 1.b3 in each game :D

Toppa's on a roll!

Levon Aronian 0-1 Veselin Topalov

Looks like my dark horse for the tournament Levon Aronian did't get the start he needed!

No. Provocative play all through the game, and it really backfired on him...

Does anyone know a website to watch these games live on?? I couldn't get the official one to work yesterday.

Chucky goes 2 and zip

Mind you it's a double header so still all to play for.

Ivanchuk and Aronian have been playing well recently so i'd plump for one of those two.
If it's tie for first place then Aronian will win any rapid-play tie-breaks guaranteed!

Topalov needs a good tournament if he's to prove he has the right to challenge the World Champion, but I don't think he has the right calibre at the moment. Ivanchuk is a better bet for that. I'd even put Carlsen ahead if only for his youthful vigour and aggressiveness. He's far more interesting to watch than some others... Radjabov is out of form and will get battered I believe.

You pipped me to the post Paul (pun intended).
Chucky does have a good lead but there's 6 more rounds to go and anything can happen.
It should be interesting though. I'll keep tabs on it.

Anyone think Chuky will make 5/5?

chessvibes.com as well as chessbase.com also offer excellent coverage btw.
