British Championships 2012

Post by PaulTalbot » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:07 am

Maybe I'm asking a bit early but has anyone got any info on the British Championships for 2012 yet?

Hi Paul - I would be interested to know where you usually get your information about the British from?

Do you use the ECF website?

Do you pick up a leaflet at a tournament?

Do you receive it in the post?

Are you on the ECF emailing list?

Sorry. I meant 2012. I heard it's at Whitley Bay but don't know anything about the venue etc or exact dates for booking accommodation.

I wish they'd regularly update the British CHess Championship website it's now been 10 days since they last updated the entries.

Matt.

Paul- Your best bet is the go on the Home Page it has all the links you need, downloadable entry form, accomodation details information of the place etc.

It can be found here: http://www.britishchess2011.com/

Next year, 2012, we have a lovely venue on the mouth of the Tyne at Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields (22 July to 4 August) which is especially exciting as it is next to Whitley Bay and easily accessible from the continent with ferries arriving from Amsterdam and Ijmuiden daily.

In 2013 we will probably be back in the popular resort of Torquay, celebrating the 100th Championships at the Riviera International Conference Centre.

People think that far ahead best to get 2011 out the way first Adam.

Torquay was a wonderful place.

Ditto the list of qualifiers. It's difficult as an organiser to tell someone that he has qualified when I don't know for sure who is and is not already qualified.

Equally, I heard at the weekend that some players who had not qualified had been emailed by the ECF and asked if they would like to enter regardless of the fact that they had not qualified. Which begs the question, why have qualifiers at all?

I agree. Who was asked if they would like to enter? You can PM me, if you wish.

Well I sent my entry of some days ago possibly a week. It would appear that my name is missing from the list.

The following tournaments I put in for as follows:

Major Open

Under 180 Morning.

31st of July Rapidplay.

Most congresses ask for a Self Stamped Address Envelope for people wishing to receive confirmation of entry, I could not see this on the pdf entry form, perhaps this is something they could add in the future so people like yourself will know their entry has been received.

Because you cannot see your name on the entries list does not mean it has not received, there are several checks to be made on each entry.

If you are worried about you entry, the web site has a link for Roger Edwards.

http://www.britishchess2011.com/entrants.htm

His email address is on the above page at the end of this text: "All matters involving player entries are handled by Congress Secretary"

He is more likely to give you an accurate answer to the status of your entry rather than anyone on the forum.

I also notice this is a 2011 question in a thread relating to 2012, perhaps it can be moved to a more appropriate thread?

Regards

David

To a degree. The Olympics run from 27 July-12 Aug 2012. However, the chess finishes on 4 August which will be in time for the more important Olympic events.

More important? You've opened a can of worms there!
