Re: Chess on TV
The 7th match in the University Christmas Challenge which features alumni from various institutions, in this case Durham and LSE, had a series of questions about checkmates. LSE failed to give a correct answer to any of the three questions including how many moves in Scholar's Mate.

Midsomer Murders on ITV. Members of a chess club being killed. Gruesome start to 2016.

Unless they are reusing the same plot ideas, that's a repeat.Nick Grey wrote:Midsomer Murders on ITV. Members of a chess club being killed.
Called "The Sicilian Defence", first shown three years ago.

Thanks Roger. New to me that one even if a repeat. They are the best the repeats.
For our delight on ITV we have the best chess in a movie. From Russia with Love. A famous combination even if not quite set up properly & coded messages some years before Karpov v Korchnoi. How the arbiter let Kronsteen get away with it is a mystery to me.

Re: Chess on TV
The combination in 'From Russia with Love' is a Spassky-Bronstein game. Spassky pointed out to me they removed 2 pawns from the actual game position. He surmised they may have been concerned about copyright. I have little doubt the chess advisor, if consulted, was overruled about passing the message to Kronsteen during the game.

Re: Chess on TV
Yes. The CHECKMATE programmes. It is at the post-production stage. They plan a second series later this year. Getting it broadcast on British TV is one ultimate objective.
It is a 10 player RR, 5 men/5 women.

Re: Chess on TV
Do we know when the whole event is likely to be broadcast/available-for-download/whatever?
